Fiji Airways is exploring a new route between Nadi and Western Sydney International Airport, with flights tentatively pencilled in to begin in June 2027.

Aviation schedule tracking site AeroRoutes has reported that the national carrier has loaded the route into its reservation system for the week commencing 7 June 2027, the The Fiji Times reported. The service is expected to be flown by a 157-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8, though the launch date remains subject to change.

Under the provisional schedule, flight FJ991 would depart Nadi at 7.55pm, arriving into Western Sydney at 10.55pm. The return service, FJ990, would leave Sydney at 11.55pm and land back in Nadi at 5.55am the following day.

If confirmed, Fiji Airways would be among the first international carriers to operate from Western Sydney International, Sydney’s second airport, which is set to open ahead of the proposed launch date.

Unlike Sydney Kingsford Smith, Western Sydney International will run around the clock with no curfew, giving airlines more flexibility on late-night scheduling — a factor the proposed Fiji Airways timetable appears designed to exploit, with both flights falling outside the curfew hours that apply at Kingsford Smith.

The Fiji Times reported that the new route would bolster connectivity between Fiji and one of its largest tourism markets, with Western Sydney among Australia’s fastest-growing regions and home to strong demand for international leisure travel. A direct service would give travellers in the area easier access to Fiji without the need to cross Sydney to reach Kingsford Smith.

Fiji Airways currently flies between Nadi and Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra. A Western Sydney service would extend that footprint further, positioning the airline to tap growing demand from Sydney’s western suburbs.
