River cruise line CroisiEurope will add a fuel surcharge of US$5.28 per person per day (around AU$7.60) for passengers departing from now until 14 April.
The decision is in response to rising oil prices, which have led to a more than 40 per cent increase in fuel costs since late February 2026.
CroisiEurope’s head office in France will continue to monitor the oil costs and assess the fee on a weekly basis.
CroisiEurope said it would not levy a fuel surcharge on US passengers departing within 30 days of the surcharge’s introduction, per the line’s terms and conditions.
Tauck said it is not planning to add fuel surcharges on its cruises this year or in 2027. Other river cruise lines, such as Viking, AmaWaterways and Avalon Waterways, have fuel contracts in place and do not expect to raise costs. Scenic Group, which owns Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours and Emerald Cruises & Tours, declined to comment on the introduction of any fuel surcharge.
Locally, Pearl Expeditions confirmed last week that it will not introduce fuel surcharges across its 2026 and 2027 sailing programs. The small-ship expedition operator said all voyages aboard its 30-guest vessel, Paspaley Pearl, will operate as scheduled, with no pricing increases planned – including for already deposited 2027 bookings.
Fuel surcharge divide: where luxury and expedition cruise lines stand
Coral Expeditions has also confirmed it has no plans to introduce a fuel surcharge at this stage.
Some global airlines have also announced fare price rises to counter higher fuel costs.
