CTM boss in legal stoush with Brisbane City Council over $20 million property plan

Corporate Travel Management (CTM) boss Jamie Pherous has become entangled in a legal battle with the Brisbane City Council over plans for a swimming pool at his new $20 million property.

Pherous is looking to add a pool along the boundary of his property on the Brisbane River in New Farm, but the council has argued the new addition will detract from the “landscape character of the Brisbane River”, according to The Australian.

The CEO bought the block of land for $11.3 million in 2018 and is building a four-level, six-bedroom mansion on it, which is estimated to cost more than $20 million.

And what’s the use of a $20 million mansion if you can’t have the best view of the Brissy river from your no-doubt extravagant pool?

The Australian reported that Pherous has proposed changes to the plans, now allowing about 1.5 metres of landscaping between the edge of the pool and the boundary to reduce the visual impacts of the pool wall.

The case will be heard in the Planning and Environment Court next week.

It’s not the first time Pherous’ mansion has caused a stir, with some neighbours voicing their concerns about the development application back in 2018, according to 9News.

CTM recently raised $375 million in funding to take over US travel company Travel & Transport.

After announcing the acquisition in September last year, the corporate travel giant had already secured $262 million by the following day and managed to scrape together the remaining $112 million by the end of October.
