The ex-director of a travel agency that left customers thousands of dollars out of pocket has reportedly registered another travel business.
The Victorian-based CTS Travel director, Jenny Stoodley, appears to have registered a new business, a fortnight after the agency was placed in voluntary liquidation.
While the ASIC website shows documents that DBJD Promotions, a business which in the past is alleged to have been affiliated with Stoodley had registered a company, World MTA, the Herald Sun reports it to be a travel business and prints its full name as, World Mobile Travel Agency. Travel Weekly has since learned that World MTA is not a travel business and has no affiliation with the Stoodley’s or CTS Travel.
However, at the time of the report, the similarities between the registered business name and that of long-standing Queensland-based MTA Mobile Travel Agency has caused confusion amongst some former customers of CTS Travel on social media.
MTA Mobile Travel Agents ceo, Don Beattie confirmed there is no involvement between the mobile agency group and that of CTS Travel Services or that of its former directors.
“Categorically World MTA has no association whatsoever with MTA Mobile Travel Agents,” Beattie told Travel Weekly this morning.
“We only employ travel experts, and we’re selective in that process.”
“We are not associated in any shape or form [with CTS Travel]”, Beattie said.
Travel Weekly also contacted AFTA and ATAS, with general manager Gary O’Riordan stating World MTA is not a member of the organisation in any way.
“We are not aware of the intentions of the business and have no knowledge of it currently transacting,” O’Riordan said.
While Stoodley has removed herself as a shareholder of DBJD, the Herald Sun reports David Stoodley is a shareholder.
The ATAS-accredited CTS Travel Services in Altona-Meadows closed suddenly last month with creditors owed more than $340,000 according to reports. The police and Consumer Affairs Victoria are reportedly investigating the agency and its directors.
A creditors’ meeting last Friday morning in Melbourne was postponed to June 5 in Altona Meadows to accompany all those wishing to attend.
The appointed chairman of the meeting of creditors, Reg Eustace, of Swanson Corporate Solutions said they had not received details of any new registered businesses by former CTS directors.
“I have no details on World MTA but it clearly is of concern and no doubt will be subject to further investigation by the liquidator after the meeting,” Eustace told Travel Weekly.
