Cunard has announced today it will bring its sought-after Northern Hemisphere literature event voyage concept to Australian shores on 11 December 2024.

Cunard has partnered with Australia’s leading bookstore Dymocks to host a 5-night return sailing from Sydney to Tasmania (Q435) in what is set to be a remarkable fusion of literature and travel.

The itinerary will bring together award-winning authors, passionate readers and aspiring writers in an inspiring maritime setting.

The full lineup of literary talent will be announced over the coming months.

“Since opening our first bookstore in 1879, Dymocks has become synonymous with literature in Australia,” event organiser, Dymocks, Judy Benson, said.

“For 35 years, we have been successfully hosting literary events and are now taking it to another level by partnering with one of the world’s most iconic travel companies.”

“By joining forces with Cunard, we will create a truly extraordinary experience that combines the elegance of a Cunard cruise with the fascinating world of literature.

“The festival will feature some of Australia and New Zealand’s leading authors and interactive sessions across a diverse range of literary genres, catering to a wide array of interests.”

Bespoke activities in an inspiring setting

As guests embark on their literature journey, they will find themselves immersed in a world where the written word takes centre stage.

The Australian Literature Festival at Sea offers a unique and captivating experience for literature enthusiasts, combining the beauty of luxurious ocean travel and engaging sessions with accomplished international and local authors as well as knowledgeable lecturers.

This extraordinary event is designed to inspire and educate guests through thought-provoking talks, interactive workshops, and opportunities to develop their writing or illustrating skills.

“Imagine stepping aboard our luxurious Queen Elizabeth, surrounded by the stunning vistas of the Australian coastline,” director, Cunard Australia, Katrina McAlpine, said.

“As you embark on this literary adventure, you’ll be joined by celebrated authors who have made significant contributions to the literary world.

“These authors will be your guides throughout the journey.

“Through bespoke talks and workshops, and the camaraderie of fellow literary enthusiasts, the Australian Literature Festival at Sea offers a transformative experience that enriches the mind, sparks creativity, and leaves lasting memories for all who embark on this journey.”

The soon-to-be announced authors will share their experiences, insights, and creative processes, offering a glimpse into the fascinating world of literature. Whether it’s discussing their award-winning novels, exploring the art of storytelling, or shedding light on the inspirations behind their work, these talks will engage and inspire guests, creating an atmosphere of intellectual stimulation and literary discovery.

Throughout the voyage, guests will have ample opportunities to engage in lively discussions, exchange ideas, and even collaborate on creative projects. The ship’s elegant and comfortable amenities provide the perfect backdrop for fostering creativity and intellectual exchange.

Beyond the literary aspects, the sailing itself offers all the luxuries and amenities that Cunard is renowned for.

From sumptuous dining experiences to world-class entertainment and leisure activities, guests can indulge in a truly memorable holiday while immersing themselves in the literary arts; all whilst taking in the breath-taking scenery and the gentle rhythm and tranquillity of the ocean.
