Anyone going anywhere will know that the Australian dollar isn’t stretching too far at the moment, meaning more and more Australians are questioning where they should go on holiday.
Thankfully, international money website WISE, has revealed the top destinations where your Australian dollar will go further. Here they are:
Vietnam
Vietnam has long been a travel favourite for many Australians. With its famous paddy fields, incredible street food, rich history, and paradise-like beaches, Vietnam is a destination people remember.
With one Australian dollar currently translating into 16,000 Vietnamese dong (Yahoo Finance), you’ll be able to live the high life on a small budget. As reported by Yahoo, a three-course meal at a nice restaurant will cost just $37 for two people, and cheap eats are a lot cheaper at just $3.20. A local beer will cost you under $2!
On top of this, accommodation and transport are also cheap meaning it’s an ideal destination to experience luxury.

Indonesia
It is no secret that Aussies love Bali! And for good reason. With one Australian dollar matching nearly 11,000 Indonesian Rupiah, you’ll notice the value of your cash. A nice sit-down meal for two will be around $30, whilst cheap eats are available from $5. Bali is also rich in culture, with tourists able to enjoy local temples and fire dances.
A local beer is around $4. You will have to pay more if you want foreign alcohol, but still, with most other costs very low you’ll be able to afford it.
Uluwatu Bali, Indonesia
Thailand
Made famous by films such as The Beach, Thailand is a destination that offers it all – beautiful natural beaches but also the party life.
Like Vietnam and Indonesia, it is also very reasonable, with one Aussie dollar translating to 21 Thai Baht, a wide-range of hotels, restaurants and experiences are within financial reach of the average Aussie.
A basic dinner will cost around $5.20, whilst a fancier meal for two will be about $46.

Turkiye
While Turkiye is a bit farther away, it offers plenty of one-in-a-lifetime experiences, such as a ride in a Cappadocia (hot air balloon) and plenty of ancient landmarks.
The weakening of the Turkish Lira means it is now more affordable than ever. One Aussie dollar will buy 23.75 Liras and in Istanbul you can eat for around $17 at cheap places. A more upmarket restaurant will be around $80 for two people.
Half a litre of local beer is expected to be around $6.50.
Colombia
Also a bit farther away, Colombia is a must if you are looking for culture and a change in scenery. The country has world-famous street food, affordable places to stay and a lot of culture.
One Australian dollar is equivalent to around 2,630 Colombian pesos. You can pick up some cheap food for around $10, and a sit-down meal for two people will be around $45.
