Travellers are being warned of potential delays at Perth Airport after dnata workers walked off the job last night and will not return until this evening.
Workers walked off the job for 24 hours from 5.30pm last night and will stay out until to 5.29pm today, with the Transport Workers Union accusing dnata of flying in strike-breakers from out of state and working them dangerously long hours in response to last week’s industrial action.
TWU WA state secretary Tim Dawson claimed dnata made interstate workers take 14-hour shifts.
dnata said it was disappointed by the strike action.
“We are disappointed that the Transport Workers’ Union (TWU) chose to proceed with industrial action at Perth Airport rather than engaging in constructive dialogue,” a dnata Airport Operations (Ground Handling & Cargo) spokesperson said.
“Only a small portion of our workforce participated in the action, and dnata can confirm that operations remained safe and smooth, with no disruptions.
We sincerely thank our dedicated employees for their hard work and our partners for their support and cooperation, which were essential in maintaining seamless service throughout the industrial action.
“Our pay offer is designed to provide our valued employees with salary increases which ease the cost-of-living pressures and recognise their dedication and contributions to our company. Throughout negotiations, we have listened carefully to feedback and worked to ensure the offer is responsive to employees’ needs. Our latest offer is currently in an access period, with a staff vote scheduled for next Thursday, 4 September.
