Destination British Columbia is celebrating 100 days until Vancouver hosts the FIFA World Cup 2026 with an industry gathering at L’Aqua Gold Room, Cockle Bay Wharf.
SBS football presenter Claudio Fabiano and Australian former Matilda’s soccer player, Lydia Williams were special guests on a panel hosted by Destination British Columbia’s director, partner and market development, Meredith Moll, to share what they love about the beautiful game and Vancouver as a host city.
“Celebrating 100 days till the FIFA World Cup 26 ties in with Destination British Columbia’s Beautiful Seats campaign, highlighting that while the matches may be the main event during The FIFA World Cup 26 in BC Place Vancouver, some of the best seats are beyond the stadium, where mountains rise and oceans meet the horizon,” Moll said.
The event also highlighted Destination Canada Australia’s partnership with Commonwealth Bank and former CommBank Matildas goalkeeper Lydia Williams, who travels to British Columbia in April 2026 as part of The FIFA World Cup 26 countdown. Williams explores the province’s landscapes, culture and communities before sharing the experience with Australian audiences while presenting tournament coverage on SBS.
“Lydia will help bring the spirit of British Columbia to life for Australian audiences,” Destination Canada Australia’s managing director Julie King said.
“Through our partnership with Commonwealth Bank, we’re proud to support this journey, connecting football culture with authentic British Columbia experiences and helping drive long-term travel interest in the province among Australian travellers.
A key focus for Destination British Columbia’s sales mission to Australia was also to highlight the introduction of select iconic destination place brands within the province including Rainforest to Rockies, Valleys & Vineyards and the Infinite Coast, to a number of trade partners who will help share The Beautiful Seats story well beyond The FIFA World Cup 26.
