“Devastated”: CATO reacts to Tucan Travel’s collapse

The Council of Australian Tour Operators (CATO) has acknowledged Tucan Travel’s contribution to the industry following the UK and Australian-owned company’s collapse.

The council said in a statement it was “devastated” to learn that Tucan Travel had been placed into voluntary administration due to the impact of COVID-19.

“[CATO] would like to acknowledge its 33-year contribution to the travel and tourism industry, and travellers alike,” it said.

“CATO empathises with Tucan’s employees, consumers and suppliers who have been financially affected, and we want to acknowledge the hardship the Australian tourism industry is currently facing and has faced over the last year as a result of COVID-19.

“CATO continues to lobby government for support and recovery for the tourism industry.”

Tucan Travel has been operating as an adventure travel specialist since 1987, offering more than 400 escorted group tours and tailor-made trips in over 70 countries. It also owns its fleet of overland expedition vehicles in South America and Africa.

The company has offices in North Sydney and London.
