Australian airports are preparing for one of the busiest travel days of the year as the Easter break approaches.
A surge in passenger traffic is expected as many travellers combine the two long weekends ahead into an extra week of holidays, while school term breaks are also underway for most of the country.
Thursday 17 April is likely to be the busiest day of domestic travel nationwide over the Easter school holiday period, followed by Good Friday (18 April).
Australian Airports Association (AAA) CEO Simon Westaway said, “We’re expecting a very busy Easter period at airports around Australia, so we want to remind passengers to plan ahead and prepare in case of any unforeseen disruptions.
“We’ve seen several incidents recently involving disruptive passengers and that kind of behaviour will not be tolerated. All aviation staff deserve to be treated with patience and respect,” he said. “There are plenty of infrastructure upgrades happening at airports so the journey to and through your local airport may have changed.
“More than $26 billion is being invested at Australian airports over the next decade to ensure that infrastructure and facilities can cope with growing travel demand,” Westaway continued. “These construction projects are already underway in many of our regions, whether it’s terminal expansions, baggage upgrades or runway builds.
“Ultimately these improvements will elevate customer experiences even further and invigorate the ever-evolving tourism market,” he said.
