The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) has once again received international recognition winning the Industry Impact Award for the second year running.

The awards run by Exhibition World and UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, recognised the EEAA for its efforts to promote Global Exhibitions Day (GED18) and for its support of the exhibition and events industry.

Global Exhibitions Day, which this year was held on 6 June, is a global initiative by UFI to raise awareness of the exhibitions and events industry and to promote its economic benefits.

This year, the campaign also included a specific focus on highlighting the career paths and opportunities within the sector. Over 85 countries took part in Global Exhibitions Day 2018.

EEAA participated in GED18 by aligning its flagship events, the EEAA Leaders Forum and EEAA Conference, to Global Exhibitions Day, and by hosting a GED18 dinner that achieved the highest level of attendance from senior government, industry and business leaders.

The dinner was opened with a message of support from The Hon. Steven Ciobo, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, and was attended by Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Hon. Mark Coulton MP, NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events, and Assistant Minister for Skills, the Hon. Adam Marshall MP, and ex-Federal and NSW Minister and Business Events Sydney Chairman, the Hon. Bruce Baird AM.

EEAA Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio said it was an honour to be recognised again by the peak global body.

“We are so pleased to have our efforts for the industry recognised through this award, and more importantly are pleased with the high level of engagement and support we received from government and business leaders during our GED18 activities and for the recognition of the contributions made by the exhibitions industry to the economy, jobs and trade,”  DiMascio said.

“I thank all those Federal and State Ministers, the government agencies and other organisations that are supporting our industry with their presence at our events. This is a win for our Members and industry in Australasia,” she said.

In addition to the two-day program of events, the Association also launched a new campaign to promote the diverse and rewarding opportunities for careers in the sector and encourage school leavers and early career professionals to choose A career for life in business and consumer events. This also directly supported GED18 and UFI’s focus on developing skills and talent for the industry.

Other winners of the 2018 Global Exhibitions Day Awards included:

  • Scale Activities won by IEIA (India)
  • Talent Promotion won by AEFI (Italy)
  • Online Activities won by Comexposium (France)
  • Creative won by Reed Expo Mexico
  • Special mentions for MFTA (Macau, SAR China) and Corferias (Columbia)

The date for GED19 has been announced as 5 June 2019.
