Malaysia Airlines has unveiled its new A330-300 business class seats, the latest step in the strategy to turn around the fortune’s of the national carrier.

The carrier displayed the new seats, to be introduced in April 2016, at the World Travel Market in London. All 15 of its A330-300 aircrafts, including those serving its Australian routes, will fitted with the new configuration by September 2016.

The new seats and configuration have been designed to give a “superb space” for work, play or sleep,  according to Malaysia Airlines Group chief executive Christoph Mueller.

“All of our A330 business class seats will now feature fully flat beds allowing our guests the ultimate in comfort and versatility,” he said.

“This product will make us more competitive against other full-service carriers and is part of the airline’s push to be more customer-centric, offering new, personalized and innovative products.”

The business class seat pitch measures 43 inches with a width of 20.6 inches and length of 76 inches when fully flat. Increased working space is one feature, with 90% of all seats having direct aisle access due to the 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 seat layout. Extra stowage space is also provided for personal items. Each seat is equipped with a Panasonic 16-inch touch screen inflight entertainment system.

The new seats come during a period of great change for the airline, following a disastrous 2014 when it was struck by the double disasters of MH370 and MH17.

Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) officially took over the operations of the former Malaysian Airline System Bhd on September 1, with the transition described as a “new beginning” by chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof.

“MAB will endeavour to ensure our passengers are given the best of our services and we will persevere to build a sustainable national icon,” he said at the time.
