Four people have been fined after at least 150 people were discovered partying in an abandoned military bunker in south-eastern Sydney on Saturday night.
According to NSW police, officers were called to Malabar Headland National Park just after midnight on Sunday morning, responding to reports of a loud party.
Upon arrival, they found at least 150 people in the disused bunker who then scattered and tried to run from the area.
The organisers, four men aged between 25 and 34, will cop a $1,000 fine for breaching COVID-19 restrictions
Currently, only 30 people are allowed to gather in a public space so this shindig was almost five times over the limit.
“It is the responsibility of everyone in this state to follow the rules and keep our community safe from further exposure to COVID-19,” Detective Superintendent Rohan Cramsie said.
“Not only are events like this illegal, this particular party was extremely dangerous for partygoers and emergency service personnel due to the location and terrain.
“With summer and the Christmas season approaching, we urge the community to listen to the advice of our health professionals to keep our family and friends safe and well.”
This comes after two high schoolers claimed to have gotten married so they could host a formal after-party with 150 people, instead of 30.
In July, organisers of a Byron Bay bush doof that saw more than 1,000 people gather on private property copped fines of up to $11,000.
The bush doof had nearly 50 times the limit of guests allowed on private property at the time.
