Event organisers have joined forces with Tourism Noosa, Noosa Council and Noosa & District Landcare to officially launch the Trees for Tourism Garden.

The garden, built in recognition of Trees for Tourism, is an initiative by Tourism Noosa in conjunction with Noosa & District Landcare that aims to support tree planting for land rehabilitation, carbon emission reduction and the protection and enhancement of koala habitat.

At the launch, a cheque for $13,151 was presented to Phil Moran (pictured above, far left), general manager of Noosa & District Landcare, with money raised from the Noosa Triathlon, Noosa Food & Wine Festival, and Tourism Noosa members and visitors.

“This outstanding initiative shows that tourism and the environment are not mutually exclusive,” Moran said.

“Noosa Landcare applauds the foresight of the tourism sector to tangibly contribute to improving our natural environment here in Noosa.”

Joining the official launch of the Trees for Tourism Garden were representatives from Noosa Council, Tourism Noosa, Noosa District & Landcare, IRONMAN (Organisers of the Noosa Triathlon and Runaway Noosa) and the Noosa Food & Wine Festival.

“Trees for Tourism was developed [sic] recognising the economic and social importance that events provide to the local community and our desire to find a way for events to give back environmentally,” Tourism Noosa Environment & Sustainability manager Juanita Bloomfield (pictured above, second from left) said.

“Event organisers of the Noosa Triathlon, IRONMAN and the Noosa Food & Wine Festival were the first two events to support Trees for Tourism, and now all events sponsored by Tourism Noosa will provide $1 per participant to the program.

“Tourism Noosa members also generously give to the program via a gold coin and card donation at our monthly networking nights and visitors also have the opportunity of donating at the Visitor Information Centre.”
