Uniworld Boutique River Cruises is marking a major milestone in 2026, with President and CEO Ellen Bettridge in Australia and New Zealand this week to share the brand’s growth plans as it celebrates 50 years on the rivers.
Founded in 1976, Uniworld is commemorating five decades of innovation in luxury river cruising with a year-long ‘Golden Anniversary’ program, including exclusive onboard celebrations and a special 50th Anniversary Sale offering up to 30 per cent off select 2026 departures.
“Everything we do begins with our guests,” Bettridge said. “For 50 years, we’ve listened closely, evolved alongside our travellers and continuously raised the bar for what luxury river cruising can be. This anniversary is both a celebration of how far we’ve come and an exciting look at where we’re headed next, and we’re thrilled to be celebrating with our guests all year long.”
As Travel Weekly first revealed yesterday, Bettridge also revealed other plans to celebrate the luxury line’s 50th anniversary include bringing back Uniworld’s original Amsterdam-Black Sea route from 1976.

As one of the first passenger river cruise lines in Europe – and the first American company to cruise Europe’s rivers – Uniworld has long positioned itself at the forefront of the sector. The brand pioneered personal butler service on the rivers and introduced its Super Ships – Floating Boutique Hotels – complete with grand entryways, multiple dining venues and highly detailed, destination-inspired design.
For the 2026 season, every European sailing will feature an onboard ‘Golden Party’ to commemorate the anniversary, alongside other celebratory moments throughout the year. The milestone also coincides with the debut of the S.S. Emilie, the brand’s first new build since 2021. The 154-passenger Super Ship, inspired by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt and named for his muse Emilie Flöge, will sail eight Danube itineraries and feature bold Art Nouveau styling, jewel tones, gold accents and a new two-bedroom suite option.

4 new ships, 6 new itineraries
Looking ahead, 2027 is shaping up as Uniworld’s most significant expansion yet, with four new ships and six new itineraries across Europe and Asia.
“2027 will be a landmark year for us at Uniworld as we introduce four remarkable new ships to our guests and a range of itineraries that blend cultural immersion, luxury and adventure,” Bettridge said. “From honouring the timeless elegance of Audrey Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich aboard our newest Super Ships in Europe, to exploring the rich landscapes of Singapore and Indonesia with the Aqua Blu, these additions mark an exciting chapter of growth and continued elevation for Uniworld.”

New builds S.S. Audrey and S.S. Marlene will join the fleet in Europe, inspired by the screen, while S.S. São Rafael will expand the brand’s Douro program in Portugal. The Aqua Blu, operated in partnership with Aqua Expeditions, will see Uniworld debut in Singapore and Indonesia with just two exclusive sailings per year.
Among six new itineraries is a 13-night Bali, Singapore & Indonesia Expedition, combining a seven-night voyage aboard the 15-suite Aqua Blu with stays in Bali and Singapore. In Europe, new journeys include Paris, Prague & Germany’s Hidden Gems; Scenic Rhine, Paris & the Swiss Alps; and a one-date-only European Gems sailing from Amsterdam to Vienna.
Uniworld is also launching a new collection of ‘CRUISE & TOUR’ itineraries in partnership with sister brand Luxury Gold, blending boutique river cruising with premium small-group land journeys.
“At Uniworld, our focus is always on creating travel experiences that feel intentional and immersive,” Bettridge said. “By pairing our boutique river cruises with some of Luxury Gold’s most popular land itineraries, we’re offering our guests a more expansive way to explore Europe – one that feels seamless and never asks them to compromise on service, comfort or ease.”
Aussie appeal
Locally, the longer 14-plus-night options are expected to resonate strongly.
“What we know is that Aussies and Kiwis tend to travel for longer and enjoy boutique hotels, excellent food and they love travelling in small groups of like-minded people,” Uniworld managing director for in Australia and New Zealand, Alice Ager, said.
“Luxury Gold is a trusted leader in providing the best accommodation with that priceless ‘jumping the queues to get behind the scenes’ access that we love. Both Luxury Gold and Uniworld offer access to moments that aren’t your everyday experience with before and after-hours visits so I am confident our agents and our guests are going to love these combinations.”
