A proposed two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran has been cautiously welcomed by the travel sector, with Dennis Bunnik telling Travel Weekly any pause in conflict is a positive step for the industry.

US President Donald Trump announced the temporary halt to military action via social media, with Iran confirming it has agreed to the proposal. Peace talks are expected to begin in Pakistan later this week.

The development has also prompted movement in global markets, with oil prices easing following the announcement, raising hopes of some relief on fuel costs if stability holds.

For the travel industry, attention is now turning to aviation access and regional stability.

Bunnik told Travel Weekly Egypt remains open and operating as normal, but noted the broader implications will depend on whether travel restrictions ease across key Middle Eastern hubs.

“The big news in this is whether travel restrictions are lifted for Gulf hubs and flights increase. If that happens, access to the Middle East and Europe will improve dramatically, and that’s what we’re all waiting on,” he said.
