EXPLAINER: Hotel wholesalers outline their currency fluctuation policy

Travel agents being caught out by currency fluctuations are becoming more common due to the political and economic environment. So it is more important than ever for travel agents to be aware of each wholesaler’s policy on dynamic pricing.

Dynamic pricing is when the booking price is subject to changes due to currency movements. With hotels bed commonly bought in USD or EUR and then sold to travel agents in AUD, suppliers are often exposed to currency risk. Whilst this can be factored into the booking price via a buffer, if the currency fluctuation is outside of this scope, the price may adjust if the customer has not already paid in full.

To help travel agents stay on top of each hotel wholesaler’s booking policy when it comes to currency fluctuations, Travel Weekly asked Australia’s largest bed banks what their pricing policies are. They can be found below:

Supplier  Policy
Stuba
“When a booking is made and confirmed with Stuba, the price is locked in and will not change, regardless of any subsequent currency movements. This provides certainty and peace of mind for both travel agents and their customers. The only time a different rate may apply is if a booking is amended, cancelled, or rebooked. In such cases, our system will re-search the dynamic pricing available at that time, which may reflect updated rates or currency exchange differences. We remain committed to offering fair, consistent pricing with no hidden surprises—just great service and support when you need it most.”
Room-Res
“Once an agent confirms a booking with Room-Res in Australian Dollars, the price is locked in. Even if the booking has been held without payment (a process we refer to as Book Now Pay Later), the price won’t change between when it is confirmed and the payment date, even if that is over a year into the future.”
TBO “TBO rates won’t fluctuate; once booked they are guaranteed. As a globally listed organisation, we continually monitor currency fluctuations as part of our regular business operations. Should there be a need to review these rates, we will as always ensure clear communication with our industry partners.”
Ratehawk No fluctuations.
Expedia N/A – Pay in Full
Bedsonline No price fluctuation
Infinity Holidays
As is industry standard, our pricing is dynamic so there may be changes due to factors such as availability, seasonality and special offers until a booking is locked in by an agent, or if adjustments are required.
Our agents and their customers can have peace of mind knowing that when a booking has been secured with payment, the price is locked in and will not be affected by currency fluctuations.
