Explore Worldwide has announced a partnership with Greening Australia, an environmental not-for-profit, as part of their Climate Action Plan.

Greening Australia is committed to restoring Australia’s diverse landscapes and protecting biodiversity in ways that benefit communities, economies, and nature. They have been restoring Australia’s unique landscapes and protecting biodiversity at scale through collaborative, science-based programs for over 40 years.

As part of the new partnership, all Australian bookings for trips departing with Explore Worldwide includes a donation to Greening Australia. This means that every Australian customer booking with Explore Worldwide will help contribute vital funds to support their work.

Explore Worldwide has always believed in the benefits of ‘local’. Their local leaders, the local restaurants, and the local communities they support.

Greening Australia’s teamwork with landholders and communities across Australia to create healthy, productive landscapes where people and nature thrives. Their restoration programs span the breadth of the country from city suburbs to remote rural locations. From the warm waters of the Great Barrier Reef to the cool island ark of Tasmania, Greening Australia thinks big to develop practical solutions for some of Australia’s biggest environmental challenges.

“At Explore, we are passionate about exploring the world, yet our wanderlust never prevents us from appreciating the beauty on our doorstep,” Explore Worldwide regional director Australia & New Zealand, Ben Ittensohn, said. “With much of Australia’s unique nature under threat and the fact that Australia has lost more mammal species to extinction than any other continent, it felt right, particularly given our significant growth in the Australian market; to protect and restore nature close to home and we are proud to be working in partnership with Greening Australia.”

Explore is setting out to protect what we already have and at the same time invest in restoration projects that will reverse biodiversity loss, expand living spaces for nature, absorb carbon from the atmosphere and improve our wellbeing.

Key partners and goals:

  • Restore the natural wonder, boost biodiversity, and support local economies with Greening Australia, alongside Rewilding Britain.
  • Protect existing ancient rainforests where complex ecosystems thrive and carbon is already stored, alongside Indigenous communities in South America with Cool Earth.
  • Remove CO2 molecules from the atmosphere via leading carbon remove technologies, working with Klimate.

“With Explore Worldwide’s support, we’re restoring Australian landscapes and deepening our impact towards a nature-positive world,” Greening Australia CEO, Heather Campbell, said. “We are proud to contribute to Explore Worldwide’s commitment to protecting and restoring biodiversity and to play a key role in bringing their Climate Action Plan to life in Australia. Together, we’re delivering meaningful outcomes for both people and nature.”

Explore has also published its annual Purpose Paper, highlighting the company’s sustainability achievements over the past 12 months. Key milestones include becoming B Corp Certified in February 2024 and raising funds for global initiatives through the Explore Foundation in its inaugural year. Notable projects include establishing a bike repair centre in Tanzania in collaboration with OneBike, improving access for local women, funding a supportive summer camp for 30 children in Ukraine through Stand with Ukraine, and providing 200 reusable menstrual kits to young women in Cambodia.
