From 7 April, the Fijian Government will be removing the three-night stay requirement for entry into Fiji just in time for the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort to re-open after an SFJD73 million ($48m) renovation.
Fiji’s Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, made the announcement on Friday and said that all visitors regardless of country of origin will be required to follow the same entry requirements into Fiji – effectively removing the travel partner system.
Fiji Airways managing director and CEO, Andre Viljoen, welcomed the news and commented that it will be great for the archipelago’s tourism.
“The timing for the Fijian Government’s decision to relax Fiji’s entry requirements could not be better as we head into the best time of year to visit Fiji,” Viljoen said.
“We’re already projecting big arrivals numbers over the coming months and now we expect the numbers to look even better.”
With the update, travellers to Fiji will only have to show proof of vaccination, a negative pre-departure rapid test, travel insurance, and a rapid test within 24 hours of arrival.
Alongside the relaxed travel requirements, Sheraton’s new renovations have been revealed.
The renovations took place over two years and have left the resort touting itself as the largest playground in Fiji.
The resorts general manager, Neeraj Chadha, told Traveller they are looking forward to welcoming holidaymakers to the property.
“The resort has always catered to multiple generations coming here to celebrate their family occasions,” said Chadha.
“A lot of our staff remember the guests and have a personal connection with them. We really enjoy that.”
The updates have gifted the resort with three new dining options and a two-hectare fruit and vegetable farm to supply the five restaurants and five bars at the Marriott International Group-owned property.
The resort’s new dining options include Tatavu Grill and Bar Restaurant, an addition to the holiday destinations’ many facilities.
A “Koro” pop-up night market on-site, which will include local art, performances, handicrafts, and live music, is also being launched.
The lavish renovations have significantly upgraded the facilities, although Chadha believes the staff are what truly makes the difference to the guest experience.
“We have worked extremely hard to ensure we have best-in-class talent, as well as making sure that the true Bula spirit remains.”
