The first airline to be confirmed as a customer of Western Sydney’s new airport has been confirmed, and it’s no surprise that it’s Qantas.
The airline will initially operate 25,000 flights per year when it opens in late 2026.
That’s around 480 flights a week. Qantas currently operates an estimated 2300 flights a week in and out of Sydney International Airport.
The deal will bring four million travellers through the airport and support 700 new jobs.
“Western Sydney International really is a game-changer for employment in the region, opening new opportunities across a range of exciting fields. Hundreds of businesses already involved, thousands of people in work and plenty more to come in the short, medium and long term,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.
“Hitting the halfway mark on construction is more than just something to mark on a calendar. It allows us to point to the benefits the project is already bringing to Western Sydney.”
