Virgin Australia announces raft of changes to its board
Virgin Australia has announced that Hou Wei has been appointed as a non-executive director and the nominated representative of Chinese real estate giant HNA Group on the company’s board.
Du Ming has also been appointed as the alternate director for Hou.
These appointments follow the resignations of Zhang Kui, the former nominated representative for the HNA Group, and Zhang’s alternate director, Luo Jiaqui.
Virgin Australia has also announced the appointment of Judith Swales as an independent non-executive director, along with the resignation of Sam Mostyn (pictured above) as an independent non-executive director.
Crown Perth appoints new hotel GMs
Crown Hotels has announced the appointment of two new general managers for its Perth properties, with Trudy Cook appointed Crown Towers GM, and Anthony Mauro as GM of Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade.
Celebrating two years as hotel manager at Crown Towers Perth, Cook’s promotion will see her responsible for managing all aspects of the hotel’s offering and operations.
Previously the hotel rooms division manager at Crown Promenade, Mauro has been selected to manage both Crown Promenade and Crown Metropol in Perth.
Crown Hotels Perth executive GM Andrew Cairns said: “Both Trudy and Anthony have been instrumental to creating the wonderful experiences our hotel guests enjoy day in and day out.
“Their commitment to excellence gives us confidence in the continuing success of our Perth hotels.”
Tourism Accommodation Australia welcomes new board for NSW
Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) NSW has welcomed its new-look board which was elected at the organisation’s AGM at Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Central Park last week.
The new TAA NSW board members are Richard Doyle (Park Regis City Centre), Bernhard Langer (Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Central Park), Antony Page (Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel), Bahram Sepahi (Four Seasons Hotel), Glen Boultwood (Serene Capital), Gaylord Lamy (The Langham, Sydney), Fazila Farhad (Ramada Hotel & Suites Sydney Cabramatta), Philippe Kronberg (Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney), and Jason Morrow (Chifley Apartments Newcastle).
TAA NSW and national CEO Michael Johnson said: “The new board members collectively bring decades of experience in the hotel industry.
“They are all respected hoteliers at the top of their game at some of the best hotels in Australia, and I look forward to working with them closely in coming months on issues of concern to our members.
“The quality of our board members really does show why TAA NSW is the state’s peak accommodation body.”
Johnson said a new board chair would be elected at a meeting next month.
“Deeply honoured”: Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne re-appointed
Marise Payne has been re-appointed as the Minister for Foreign Affairs following the Morrison government’s election win.
Payne said in a statement that the government’s agenda internationally “will continue to be one which supports a safe and prosperous region, building economic opportunity and resilience”.
“The continued strengthening of our alliances and strategic partnerships, particularly in the Indo-Pacific, will remain a critical priority,” she said.
“The safety and security of Australians, and protection of Australians from threats including terrorism, cyber threats and health pandemics, the promotion of a robust international rules-based order to support global peace and prosperity, and the delivery of sustainable and targeted overseas development assistance will also continue to be guiding principles of our approach.
“I look forward to early engagements with my counterparts at upcoming meetings, including the Pacific Islands Forum, AUKMIN, AUSMIN and ASEAN-related meetings.”
