Helloworld Travel Limited has appointed former Federal Treasurer Peter Costello AC as an independent director, effective 1 June 2026, according to an ASX listing released this morning.

Costello brings more than 11 years as Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia, a decade as Chair of Australia’s Future Fund – which he established during his time in Treasury – alongside roles as chair of the World Bank’s Independent Advisory Board and chair of Nine Entertainment Group.

Helloworld CEO Andrew Burnes AO said he was delighted to welcome Costello to the board and looked forward to working together to grow and develop the business.

Shares in the ASX-listed travel group (HLO) lifted 0.7 per cent on the day of the announcement.

The appointment comes as speculation continues to mount around a potential renewed Helloworld bid for Webjet Group, in which the company holds approximately 17 per cent. Burnes did not rule out a fresh approach at the company’s half-year results in February, following an unsuccessful $353 million offer at 90 cents per share in November 2025.
