Victoria’s favourite one-day holiday destination, Funfields Theme Park, is celebrating its 40th summer of operation with new rides, tropical experiences and a celebration of everything that’s made it a local favourite for families since day one.

“This year is all about celebrating 40 years of memories,” Funfields general manager of Operations, Flynn Simsek, said. “So many Victorians grew up coming here, people met while working at the park, and now return with their kids. Funfields has become part of their family traditions, and we’re incredibly proud of that.”

Located just 40 minutes from Melbourne in Whittlesea and originally known as the Alpine Toboggan Park, it opened in 1985. Funfields has since grown from a small family attraction into one of Victoria’s leading theme parks, employing more than 300 locals each season and welcoming generations of visitors through its gates.

This season marks the first full summer for two major additions as part of the park’s $10 million upgrade, the heated tropical-style oasis of Lava Lagoon Lazy River where families can float through lush landscaped gardens, and Cyber Drift Bumper Cars with an exciting and fun twist to the classic ride, sure to supercharge the action.

The new attractions complete one of the park’s largest transformations yet. From March 2024 to completion, this massive project moved 5,000+ tonnes of earth, 130 tonnes of steel, 2 million litres of water, 2,500 tonnes of crushed rock and 1,000 cubic metres of concrete, with more than 15 trades used to bring this massive creation to life.

Special touches like wave generators from Scotland, Queensland-crafted rockwork, and more than 3,500 plants bring the space to life, with 11 VIP cabanas now offering guests private retreats across the new Island and River Bank zones.

“We’ve worked hard to make Funfields feel like a tropical getaway without the flight,” Simsek said. “It’s the perfect way to escape the summer heat and to celebrate our 40th year in true Funfields style.”

With the Bureau of Meteorology predicting a hot Victorian summer, the park is preparing for one of its busiest seasons yet. Funfields is open for the 2025/26 summer season, ready to help visitors cool off and celebrate four decades of family fun at a favourite one day holiday destination.
