Visit Malta welcomed leading media to an intimate VIP dinner in Sydney last night, showcasing the destination’s cultural depth, culinary heritage and growing global appeal.
Held at LuMi Dining in Pyrmont, the evening brought together guests from publications spanning travel and wellness including Broadsheet, news.com.au and the New Zealand Herald for a curated multi course dining experience.
The event was hosted by Mario Farrugia-Borg, director of Visit Malta for Australia and New Zealand, who spoke about the island nation’s unique position at the crossroads of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
Farrugia-Borg highlighted Malta’s rich Arabic heritage, its distinctive fusion cuisine and its long standing role as a major film location. He noted that blockbuster productions including Gladiator were filmed on the island, alongside numerous other international titles, reinforcing Malta’s appeal beyond traditional sun and sea tourism.
Guests were treated to a refined tasting menu by acclaimed chef Federico Zanellato, whose background includes world renowned kitchens such as Nihonryori RyuGin, Noma and Attica. Zanellato’s contemporary approach and precision technique provided a fitting backdrop for the evening, with subtle Maltese inspired elements woven throughout the menu.
Set against LuMi’s harbourfront views, the dinner formed part of Visit Malta’s ongoing efforts to deepen relationships with key media across Australia and New Zealand and drive awareness of the destination’s evolving tourism story.
