A report which is being prepared on the potential development of a $450 million cruise ship terminal in the Gold Coast’s The Spit, has been pushed back until after the state election.
The report was originally due to be put before council in October, but has now been rescheduled to November.
According to The Gold Coast Bulletin, a spokesman for Mayor Tom Tate said the delay in presenting the report was because Cr Tate was unable to attend the meeting at which it was set to be handed down.
The purpose of the report is to prompt preliminary environmental studies of the proposed terminal area, which is said to be located at Philip Park, as well as prepping the state government on the matter.
The report follows a feasibility study lead by PriceWaterhouseCoopers which found the terminal would bring around $4 billion into the economy and offer more than 3,500 jobs.
Per The Gold Coast Bulletin, the Mudgeeraba Councillor Glenn Tozer, who has been against the terminal for sometime, said the push back made it clear more investigations needed to be done.
“My gut feeling is that these things are timed for a reason,” he said.
“There needs to be adequate time to deal with significant issues (seen in the feasibility study).”
