Google has added new hotel search filters to its Maps application, with pet-friendly and child-friendly filters among the features.
Last month, Google launched its first foray into the hotels space with Google Hotel Search, shifting the company away from providing external links for booking sites through Google Search, to hosting them on-site.
Launched on Tuesday, the company has added further hotel functionality in Google Maps through the addition of amenity filters, including searches for lodgings that offer free wireless internet, free breakfast, air-conditioning, swimming pools, restaurants and bars, as reported by Skift.
Further amenity filters include pet-friendly and child-friendly lodgings, as well as hotels offering fitness centres on-site.
Along with amenities, Google Maps also offers hotel filters for price, Google user rating, hotel class and available deals.
The latest development in Google Maps expands upon the tech giant’s roster of travel booking technologies, with Hotel Search, Flights, and Travel Trends. Each of the products function as third-party integrated technologies.
Google has also made its way into the vacation rentals space by offering users the capacity to book entire lodgings from a pool of booking partners.
Adding amenity filters for hotel searches through Google Maps expands upon the company’s massive advantage of holding users to its products, as opposed to navigating in between applications on desktop or iOS/Android.
It has been widely reported that Google Maps has more than a billion users worldwide. With more tools added to its encompassing navigation suite, along with a greater emphasis by the company to keep users on-site, these figures could rise.
Google parent-company Alphabet said at an investor conference in 2018 that “near me” searches on Maps had grown 150 per cent over the prior year.
