Melbourne doesn’t do cookie-cutter luxury, and neither does Hannah St Hotel.
Slipping quietly into Southbank with the kind of understated confidence the city is famous for, this $150 million design-led property feels less like a hotel and more like a cool clubhouse with a very good concierge.
Reminiscent of New York’s Flatiron Building, the hotel makes an architectural statement before you’ve even checked in.
Designed by Melbourne-based Flack Studio, interiors blend nostalgia with contemporary polish, finished with custom furniture and moody yet welcoming corners that feel equally suited to a late-night negroni or an early-morning espresso.
There are 188 rooms and suites, each framed by floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase Melbourne’s skyline in all its dramatic glory. The design details are where the personality shines, curated minibars, Marshall speakers, plush robes and thoughtful touches that make the rooms feel like a stylish city apartment rather than a temporary stay.

Built for the modern traveller
One of the quirkiest, and arguably coolest, features is the hotel’s podcast recording studio, tucked into the co-working space. Yes, you read that right.
Whether you’re recording industry insights, travel diaries or simply pretending you’re hosting the next big thing, it’s a playful nod to the modern traveller. It’s also a clever example of how Hannah St leans into creativity rather than convention.
The heartbeat of the hotel sits around its social spaces, particularly the Level 9 wellness and lifestyle zone. Here, a 20-metre indoor pool with city views invites guests to unwind, while steam rooms, sauna and a well-equipped gym round out the experience. It’s luxury, but with a distinctly Melbourne twist, effortless, understated and a little bit cool.

Dining is equally impressive, thanks to a collaboration with The Mulberry Group, which has delivered five distinct venues ranging from a European-inspired bistro to rooftop cocktail spaces. It means guests can move seamlessly from morning coffee to late-night drinks without ever leaving the building, though Melbourne’s culinary scene is just steps away if you do.
Location-wise, Hannah St sits in one of Melbourne’s most culturally charged pockets. Positioned near the evolving Arts Precinct and moments from the Yarra River, it offers walkable access to theatres, galleries and buzzing restaurants, perfect for travellers who want to feel the city rather than just see it.
