Hawai’i Tourism Oceania has welcomed the launch of Qantas’ new direct Melbourne and Honolulu service which officially took off on 1 May 2025, coinciding with Hawai’i’s annual Lei Day celebrations.
The inaugural flight was farewelled at Melbourne Airport with vibrant Hawaiian music and hula dancing, creating a festive send-off for passengers. The celebration was made possible through a close collaboration between Hawai’i Tourism Oceania, MeetHawai’i, Qantas, and the Melbourne Airport team.
The new route, operated by a Qantas Airbus A330 aircraft, offers three return flights each week, adding over 80,000 seats annually between Victoria and the Hawaiian Islands.
“There’s a long-standing love between Australians and Hawai’i, and this new Qantas flight from Melbourne to Honolulu makes that connection even easier,” Hawai’i Tourism Oceania account director, Jennifer Gaskin, said.
“It’s a great opportunity for more Aussies to soak up the sun, experience the rich culture, and enjoy the aloha spirit that keeps them coming back.”
“Hawai’i is one of our most popular leisure destinations and our Sydney to Honolulu flights are a favourite with customers year-round,” Qantas International CEO, Cam Wallace, said.
“It’s fantastic to offer Victorians the option to fly with Qantas directly to the Hawaiian Islands and to build on our proud, longstanding connection with Hawai’i.
“This new route is part of our focus on expanding our international network and providing more choice for customers.”
