Hobart Airport has opened two new departure gates as part of its $200-million terminal redevelopment – the largest transformation in the airport’s history.
The new gates mark the latest milestone in a staged expansion designed to keep the airport fully operational throughout construction. From next month, the current departures area will temporarily close, with additional interim gates and seating opening in its place.
New food and beverage options will also roll out progressively, including York Street Bar, Outbound Café and the return of Coal River Café.

Hobart Airport CEO Norris Carter said the redevelopment would ultimately double the size of the terminal, adding capacity for food, retail and employment as the airport prepares for continued passenger growth.
“We’re building an airport that reflects Tasmania and is designed for the way people want to travel today and into the future,” Mr Carter said.
The airport currently handles close to three million passengers annually, with that figure forecast to reach 3.5 million by 2030. Hutchinson Builders is delivering the project with around 150 local workers and contractors on-site daily.
