What comes to mind when thinking of Hong Kong? The amazing cityscape? Dining hotspots? Modern skyscrapers?
This fabulous Chinese city offers all of this – but the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) are sick of people thinking Hong Kong doesn’t offer anything else.
Enter the new Guide to Cycling & Hiking in Hong Kong, a heavenly tool for active travellers and those who want to see more of Hong Kong than the concrete jungle side.
The guide was launched in between courses at the Doltone House Hyde Park – and whilst the food was pretty good, the beautiful guide booklet is even better.
If you haven’t been to Hong Kong, this will definitely make you want to book plane tickets, ASAP.
The new campaign encourages Aussies to shimmy into their active gear (yes, whilst on holidays) and head out on their feet or two wheels to explore a more ~organic~ side to Hong Kong – which shows it’s a destination that truly has something for everyone.
Think sunning yourself on one of the many, many islands that surround Hong Kong, or hiking up a huge mound of green to see the city and it’s surrounds from above.
Exhibit A:
To show visitors what they are missing out on, the HKTB has recruited a handful of local photographers to showcase the side of Hong Kong that Aussies rarely see.
As a result, they’ve captured off-the-radar landscapes and beautiful scenery, highlighting the impressive views you can experience firsthand.
How? By following a bunch of self-guided trails in the HKBT guide. Easy!
The guidebook is available from visitor centres around the city or as an e-version and is divided into three different themes: Hiking in Heritage; Picture-Perfect Vistas; and Geological Wonders, with each section detailing suggested trails, along with the estimated time required and difficulty levels. So even if you don’t think you can hike, there’s definitely one in there for you somewhere.
HKTB regional director Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, Andrew Clark said Aussies have always held a strong affection for Hong Kong but they often get caught up in the buzz and don’t explore beyond the central areas.
“We really wanted to show how much more there is on offer in Hong Kong and also how easy it is to reach.
“Just a taxi or MTR ride away, the green rolling hills, quaint beaches and scenic villages quickly replace the bustling urban areas,” he said.
