Footage has emerged showing nine-meter waves hitting against windows of Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas as it sailed across the Atlantic Ocean last year.
The uploaded video shows the huge waves crashing against the glass as one passenger jokingly-quips “We’re staying in one place hoping not to die”.
News.com.au reports that 193km/h winds shook the ship resulting in 10-meter waves crashing against cabin windows as RCI’s Anthem sailed from New Jersey to the Bahamas last February. The ship was carrying 4500 guests and 1600 crew at the time.
RCI later was forced to apologise to passengers for sailing into the storm in the Atlantic Ocean, SMH reports. The ship was attempting to cruise to Port Canaveral in Florida, but was forced to return to New Jersey after the storm hit.
For about four hours, the ship was listing at a 45-degree angle, the paper reports. The Captain had advised all passengers to stay in their cabin until the weather improves, but the footage shows passengers stumbling around during the storm.
Photos surfaced shows broken banana chairs, smashed crockery and tables strewn around the ship following the storm.
There was no damage to the ship.
