Perched on a ridge within the Victoria Falls National Park, The Elephant Camp offers an intimate blend of safari elegance and modern luxury. With panoramic views of the Batoka Gorge, the might Zambezi and the misty spray of the iconic falls in the distance, this camp provides a serene retreat just a stone’s throw from one of the world’s natural wonders.
Welcome 8/10
Guests will turn off the main road into a gated and fenced area within the national park. A few minutes down a bumpy road where game may wander within site, guests are greeted with warm smiles, refreshing towels and attentive hospitality. The staff’s genuine enthusiasm and knowledge about the local environment immediately make visitors feel both welcomed and informed.
Rooms 8/10
The camp boasts luxurious tented suites, each thoughtfully designed to maximise comfort while embracing the surrounding wilderness. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto private decks each equipped with plunge pools, offering unobstructed views of the African bushveld. The interiors are a harmonious blend of neutral tones accented with vibrant touches, featuring spacious bedrooms, cozy lounge areas, and expansive bathrooms complete with indoor and outdoor showers. Modern amenities, including air conditioning and well-stocked minibars, ensure a stay that is both comfortable and indulgent.
Facilities 8/10
Central to the camp is the main lodge, which houses a welcoming lounge, elegant dining area, and a well-appointed bar. The expansive deck serves as a communal space where guests can unwind, dine al fresco, or take a dip in the swimming pool while soaking in the vistas of the Batoka Gorge. Evenings are often spent around the sunken fire pit, sharing stories under the starlit African sky. For those seeking relaxation, in-suite spa treatments are available, adding an extra layer of indulgence to the experience. Meanwhile, the nearby ‘West Camp’ which is still part of Elephant Camp offers a smaller and more private set up that still has all the facilities of the main camp, just with fewer accommodation tents, making it ideal for clients looking for a quieter stay or small group bookings.
Location 8/10
Strategically situated within a private concession, The Elephant Camp is approximately 10 kilometres from the majestic Victoria Falls. This proximity allows guests easy access to the falls and the bustling town, while still offering a secluded sanctuary away from the crowds. The camp’s elevated position provides breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, including glimpses of wildlife frequenting the nearby waterhole.
Service 9/10
The service at The Elephant Camp is characterised by professionalism and a personal touch. The staff exhibit a genuine commitment to guest satisfaction, often going above and beyond to cater to individual preferences. I’m not one for spending a lot of time at the bar drinking and chatting but Elephant Camp broke that behaviour. The staff, whom all remain in contact on Whatsapp weeks later, were a joy to talk to. They feel like friends, during the stay and even more so after. Whether arranging bespoke activities or accommodating special dietary requests, their attention to detail enhances the overall experience.
Overall 8/10
The Elephant Camp seamlessly combines the thrill of an African safari with the comforts of a luxury retreat. Its prime location near Victoria Falls, coupled with exceptional accommodation and heartfelt service, makes it an ideal choice for discerning travellers seeking an immersive yet opulent experience in Zimbabwe’s wilderness.
