Marriott International to debut first ACT hotel
Marriott International today announced it has signed an agreement with Iconic Hotels to open its first-ever hotel in Canberra. Midnight Hotel, part of Geocon’s $200 million residential and commercial development in Braddon, central Canberra, will open in September as an Autograph Collection hotel.
Disney unveils Star Wars-themed hotel
Disney has announced that visitors to the company’s Star Wars-themed land will soon be able to spend two nights in a themed hotel that will be called Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
The htoel will be “a glamorous ship” called the Halcyon, where every window features stellar views into space.
Guests will embark together on a two- night adventure that includes special activities, dining, and a “spaceport” day on Batuu at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, inviting guests even deeper into their own Star Wars stories.
Pan Pacific Hotels Group to debut PARKROYAL Dalian in 2020
Pan Pacific Hotels Group has announced it will debut its deluxe brand, PARKROYAL Hotels & Resorts, in China with the opening of PARKROYAL Dalian in Liaoning Province, China, in the fourth quarter 2020.
The announcement marks an important milestone as the group brings its deluxe brand into China, providing guests with a new experience of hospitality.
Hilton named one of Australia’s best companies to work for
Hilton has once again been recognised by the Great Place to Work Institute as one of Australia’s best companies to work for in 2019.
Hilton placed third on the top 50 list for companies with over 1,000 employees. This marks the third consecutive year that Hilton has placed in the top of this prestigious list, including being the only hospitality company recognised by the Great Place to Work Institute.
This accolade builds on recent wins in Fiji and greater Asia Pacific, where Hilton was ranked as the top global hospitality company to work for in the Asia’s Best Multinational Workplace 2019 list.
WA’s Accommodation Awards for Excellence winners celebrated
The winners of WA’s 2019 Accommodation Awards for Excellence were announced at the Devil’s Lair Gala Ball, earlier this week, celebrating the state’s leading accommodation properties and the management staff who drive their success.
The Australian Hotels Association Perth Airport Accommodation Awards for Excellence recognised WA’s best accommodation hotel venues and management staff across 25 categories.
Prominent hospitality figure Peter Prendiville was announced as the 2019 Hall of Fame inductee while Crown Towers was crowned WA’s Best Accommodation Hotel.

Oakwood to launch two new Oakwood Suites by 2020
Oakwood has announced the signing of Oakwood Suites in two key locations – Bangkok, Thailand, and Yokohama, Japan. Oakwood Suites Bangkok is scheduled to open by the end of 2019, while Oakwood Suites Yokohama, a Mapletree-owned property, is set to open in mid-2020.
