How Julie Delaforce failed

Being a General Manager of a leading online community and social media management company can’t have a whole lot to do with failure, right?

Well, as it turns out, it does.

Quiip is one of Australia’s leading social media and online community management specialists, focused on connecting people and communities to do business better, but, as Julie Delaforce will tell you, it’s still a small business – and that comes with plenty of challenges and inevitable failures on the way to success.

Yesterday, ex-olympian Steven Bradbury told us how you have to learn from experience in order to be successful the second (or fourth) time round.

As an insightful businesswoman who’s worked in the digital space for over a decade, Delaforce has just that: experience. And with experience comes failure – which Delaforce has learned from throughout her impressive career.

But according to her, there’s always further to go.

“As a small business, failure comes in many forms, because quite simply there’s always more you could be doing better.”

“Whether it’s missing a pitch or not having the big agency wow factor,” she told TW.

“But that presents the never-ending challenge of constant evolution which means you don’t stagnate. And we set HIGH expectations.

“Every member has to perform, especially when you’re playing with the big end of town!” she continued.

Delaforce is just one of our super successful and inspirational speakers we’ve lined up for the Travel DAZE conference, all of which hail failure as a big part of their success stories.

The Quiip General Manager also said that while failure can be seen in a triumphant light once you succeed, it can still be tough to overcome.

“Often the scenario isn’t the important aspect of failure. The real things that we learn as we’re put under the pressure test are our resilience and our coping mechanisms.

“And yes we get through it and can maybe glorify failure from the “other side” but it’s tough going in the heat of the moment – it’s also part of growing as a leader,” she added.

Grab tickets to see Delaforce speak in detail about her failures and success here.

More lessons on failure from our Travel DAZE speakers to come, but for more info on the insightful event here.
