World Expeditions Travel Group’s Huma Charity Challenge has reached an extraordinary milestone, raising more than $13 million for a range of charitable causes across Australia.
As the division dedicated to adventure fundraising, Huma Charity Challenge empowers individuals to embark on life-changing expeditions while supporting charities focused on humanitarian aid, health, animal welfare, domestic violence, homelessness, and child welfare as just some of its causes.
World Expeditions was the pioneer of charity challenges in Australia, introducing the first ever charity challenge in 2000 to raise funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation. Over time, World Expeditions built its fundraising arm into a brand and the Huma Charity Challenge was born.
Since it was founded in 2013, Huma Charity Challenge has led the charge in adventure fundraising, pushing participants beyond their limits while raising millions for life-changing causes. Whether it’s tackling an ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, hiking the Great Wall of China, trekking to Everest Base Camp or exploring the Great Walks of Australia and New Zealand, every challenge is designed to fuel adventure and fund critical services for communities in need.
“We are incredibly proud of the work that Huma tirelessly rolls out to support great causes,” World Expeditions Travel Group CEO, Sue Badyari, said. “These challenges are more than just adventures – they are a way to drive meaningful change and directly support the important work of our charity partners. To see the tangible difference we’re making through adventure and fundraising is truly inspiring.”
The name ‘Huma’ is inspired by the mythical Huma bird, a creature of Persian legend often referred to as the bird of peace and good fortune. The bird never lands, symbolising freedom, endurance, and the power to uplift others – values that align perfectly with Huma Charity Challenge’s mission of inspiring adventure for a cause.
Partnering with hundreds of charities worldwide – including CanToo, Beyond Blue, Foodbank, the Mark Hughes Foundation, School for Life, Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation, Epworth Medical Foundation and the Australian Himalayan Foundation – Huma has helped drive ground-breaking research, vital programs, and essential support for some of the most urgent issues of our time.
Fuelled by its success, Huma Charity Challenge is scaling new heights, creating even more opportunities for adventurers to turn their passion into impact. Whether it’s cycling, trekking, kayaking or climbing across the globe, participants can take on world-class challenges while directly supporting life-changing causes. Seasoned explorers and first-time adventurers alike can step up, push their limits, and make a real difference.
Huma Charity Challenge offers a diverse range of adventures tailored to different fitness levels and interests.
