Hyatt returns to Queensland with new Brisbane hotel

Hyatt has announced plans to build its first hotel in Brisbane, marking its return to Queensland, with Hyatt Place Brisbane.

Hyatt Place Brisbane South City Square is expected to open in 2023 at the South City Square precinct in Woolloongabba, a $ 700 million development by joint-venture development partners Pellicano and Perri Projects.

The hotel is expected to feature 170 rooms and provide guests with a stylish and seamless experience, including a rooftop pool and bar, a 24-hour grab-and-go food market, as well as a café, lobby lounge and fitness centre.

Hyatt’s group president for the Asia Pacific, David Udell, signed the agreement at Grand Hyatt Melbourne today ahead of the Australasian Hotel Industry Conference and Exhibition.

“We’re proud to work with Pellicano and Perri Projects to bring the Hyatt Place brand to Brisbane for the first time, marking Hyatt’s return to the Queensland market and into a dynamic and fast-emerging community,” Udell said.

“Woolloongabba is a hotspot for major sporting, entertainment, tourism, commercial and medical areas in Brisbane, and we look forward to giving professionals and leisure travellers a relaxed, high-quality hotel experience within South City Square’s vibrant, inner-city lifestyle hub.”

When complete, South City Square will also be home to 850 architecturally designed apartments, a Readings Cinemas, Woolworths supermarket, health and wellness facilities, offices, a childcare centre, as well as leading shopping, dining, cafés, and boutique retailers.

South City Square recently took out the Residential Property and Mixed-Use Project category at the International Property Awards 2019, which will be formally presented in Bangkok, this May.

Pellicano managing director Nando Pellicano said the announcement of Hyatt Place Brisbane South City Square demonstrates the world-class calibre of the precinct.

In ackowledging the large-scale development, Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said “for the first time in a decade, [Brisbane] now offers a wide range of new luxury accommodation options, supporting our $7.5 billion tourism industry and record visitation to the city.”

The precinct and hotel will also be near the currently under-construction Cross River Rail Woolloongabba underground station and integrated bus hub – a service that will get train passengers to Brisbane’s CBD in fewer than five minutes.
