Google is stepping further into the travel arena with the launch of an AI-driven tool that helps travellers uncover cheap flights – even if they haven’t decided where to go.
The new feature, dubbed Flight Deals, builds on the existing Google Flights platform and is designed for flexible travellers “whose number one goal is saving money on their next trip.”
Rather than trialling endless date and destination combinations, users can simply type a request in natural language. For example: “week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only” or “10-day ski trip to a world-class resort with fresh powder.” The tool then surfaces the most relevant bargains that match.
Google is positioning Flight Deals as a beta release to test how AI can enhance the booking process. The product will roll out this week in the US, Canada, and India, with further markets likely to follow.
While Australia isn’t on the launch list, the move signals Google’s growing ambition in the travel sector and highlights how AI is increasingly shaping the way travellers plan and book their trips.
Implications for advisors
Travel advisors could use Flight Deals as a research tool to quickly benchmark fares and identify deals for clients. This may allow more focus on curating personalised experiences, providing local insights, and managing trip logistics.
Keeping track of AI developments and changing consumer behaviours may help advisors adapt their services to evolving client expectations.
