Soccer fans are counting down to the launch of the FIFA World Football Museum which is scheduled to open its doors in Zurich, Switzerland at the end of this month.
The construction process began back in April 2013 and will finally come to an end when the museum opens at midday on February 28.
The entire 103-year history of the FIFA congress is documented and on display in the museum which promises to be “modern and interactive”.
Spread over three storeys, the museum will house five educational and entertainment areas equipped with cinema screens, gaming areas, sonic pods, a lab and a library providing the opportunity for visitors to fully “immerse themselves” in the world of football.
The centrepiece of the museum is the original World Cup trophy although there are also around 1,000 exhibits, 4,000 historic books, 1,480 images and 500 videos in the collection.
Director of Switzerland Tourism ANZ Mark Wettstein described the FIFA Museum as a “one of a kind”.
“As with most of our museums in Switzerland, it’s not only what is on display to visitors at the FIFA Museum,” he said.
“Even more so, it is about the multimedia and interactive experience from start to finish with which visitors engage as they journey through the space, learning about the history, personalities and stories that unfold before them.”
