A second major breach of credit card data has been reported by InterContinental Hotels Group.
Skift reports that IHG have had another data breach of guest’s payment cards at US IHG-branded hotels in its fourth quarter of 2016.
It is not clear how many properties have been affected, however Travel Weekly UK have said 1,161 IHG hotels may have been impacted from September 29 2016 to December 29 2016.
This is the second report IHG has released of of breached credit card data, the earliest being last February, affecting 12 US hotels.
IHG report that malware was able to retrieve data including names, codes and numbers from credit cards used at its properties. A cybersecurity firm has since been hired to investigate the breach and collaborate with law-enforcement officials.
Guests have been advised to check bank statements and report any suspicious card charges.
IHG owns and operates 3,600 franchised hotels across America, including brands Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood Suites, Hotel Indigo, and InterContinental Hotels.
