Cultural adventure specialist Inside Travel has unveiled a new premium itinerary under its Japan-focused brand InsideJapan, launching a 14-night ‘Luxury Japan’ small group tour for 2026.

Designed for culturally curious travellers seeking a higher level of comfort, the Insider-led journey combines superior-grade accommodation with immersive experiences in both iconic cities and lesser-visited regional destinations.

The new itinerary spans six locations, including headline acts Tokyo and Kyoto, while deliberately steering clients towards under-visited regions that offer deeper cultural engagement away from peak tourist crowds.

Evolving demand in premium

Inside Travel Small Group tour manager Richard Farmer said the concept was developed in response to evolving demand at the premium end of the escorted touring market.

“This tour is about the luxury of experiencing unique cultural moments – from incredible regional destinations to character-rich accommodation and exclusive experiences,” Farmer said.

The journey begins in Tokyo before heading to the historic castle town of Inuyama, home to one of Japan’s 12 original samurai castles and set alongside the Kiso River. The stop adds historical depth and regional character to the itinerary, a hallmark of InsideJapan’s touring style.

In Kyoto, guests will explore quieter neighbourhoods alongside their Insider tour leader, uncovering hidden temples and engaging with long-held traditions. Culinary experiences are a central feature, including kaiseki cuisine on the banks of Lake Biwa, sake tastings and a private dinner in the company of a Geisha.

The tour then ventures south to Kyushu, Japan’s southern main island known for its dramatic mountain landscapes and striking coastal scenery.

“Next, the tour heads to the southern main island of Kyushu, a region home to mountain landscapes that wrap around stunning coastline shores,” Farmer said.

Within Kyushu, the itinerary includes Fukuoka, widely regarded as one of the country’s leading foodie cities, and Nagasaki, celebrated for its picturesque harbour setting and layered cultural history. Travellers will also visit a small coastal tea farm, meeting local farmers and gaining insight into regional agricultural traditions.

“In Inuyama, participants will have the opportunity to begin one of the days at a local temple and take part in a Buddhist Goma fire ceremony with the monks,” Farmer added.

Inside Travel co-founder Alastair Donnelly said the new product answers growing appetite for high-end experiential touring in Japan, particularly among travellers seeking cultural immersion without compromising on comfort.

“We have been running our style of Small Group Tours for 25 years now and 2025 was InsideJapan’s biggest ever year for small group tour sales,” Donnelly said.

“We’re seeing an increase in the number of travellers seeking immersive small group tours with an added level of comfort – making our new ‘Luxury Japan’ tour the ideal choice.”

The 14-night package includes superior-grade accommodation throughout, all transport across Japan, daily breakfast and a selection of additional meals, exclusive cultural experiences and expert guidance by an Insider tour leader.

With Japan continuing to perform strongly out of Australia and demand for premium small group experiences on the rise, the new Luxury Japan itinerary positions InsideJapan to capture a growing segment of culturally motivated, comfort-driven travellers.
