Just in case you’re feeling self-conscious about your geographical skills today, here’s a story about a travel industry professional who admitted she didn’t know Indonesia and Thailand were different countries.
Oh, and she said it while competing on reality TV show Love Island Australia.
Gold Coast-based Tayla Mellington, 26, left viewers baffled last week after confessing the gaff to fellow contestant, Ryan Reid.
According to News.com, Reid told Mellington that he had once ridden an ostrich, and she asked him if it had taken place in Austria.
“In Vietnam,” Reid corrected her.
“Aw, Vietnam’s like Thai … like Asia?” Mellington said.
“Yeah so you got like Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia,” Reid said, gesturing to explain their locations.
It was this point in the conversation that things started to go south.
“You know what’s so bad? I work in travel and I don‘t know where anything is,” she said.
“People call up and say, ‘I’m going from Bali to Thailand’ and I’m like, ‘is that international travel?’. I wouldn’t know, or is that domestic?”
“It’s international,” Reid said.
“See, I have no f**king idea because they’re all in the same f**king country,” Mellington responded.
