Intrepid Travel has added Greece and New Zealand to its Intrepid Guide collection, drawing on more than 35 years of experience leading small group adventures to reflect the company’s experience-rich, locally-led approach to travel.
The guides follow the 2024 launch of Intrepid’s inaugural title, The Intrepid List, and continue the company’s ambition to use storytelling to inspire positive change through travel. Unlike traditional guidebooks, the Intrepid Guides are experience-led rather than destination-focused – highlighting everything from a home-cooked meal at a remote refuge in the Greek mountains to a historic railway journey through native forest on New Zealand’s North Island.
Natalie Placko, global brand director at Intrepid Travel, said each guide was designed for the “intrepid traveller” – someone who values authentic encounters, seeks out local perspectives and wants to go beyond the standard tourist trail.
“These books celebrate the moments that make travel truly memorable and inspires travellers to explore some of the world’s most popular destinations with curiosity and consideration,” Placko said.
The Intrepid Guide series
The guides follow a thematic format across chapters including nature, wildlife, activities and sports, festivals and events, food and drink, history, architecture, art and culture, slow travel and responsible travel. With trips in more than 100 countries, Intrepid plans to keep expanding the range, which now spans Greece, New Zealand, Italy, Vietnam, Japan, Iceland and Australia.
The collection marks the second phase of Intrepid’s publishing partnership with Hardie Grant Explore, following The Intrepid List’s debut as a first-of-its-kind hardcover book of 100 traveller stories from around the globe.
The Intrepid Guide series goes on sale online and in leading bookstores globally from 1 September 2026, priced at $39.99 in Australia. Two per cent of all sales will go to Intrepid Foundation partners in the featured destinations, including Amurtel in Greece and Forest & Bird in New Zealand.
Intrepid runs 26 trips in Greece and 28 in New Zealand, led by local guides in small groups designed to connect travellers with the people and places they visit while supporting local businesses.
