Intrepid Travel has announced the return of the Buffalo Ride on 3 May 2026, calling on the travel industry to get on their bikes and help raise $170,000 to support women and girls in the rural communities through access to transport.
Led by The Intrepid Foundation in support of World Bicycle Relief, the global cycling initiative invites businesses, teams and individuals to ride anywhere, anytime throughout May, turning kilometres into life-changing impact.
Women and girls in low-income rural regions continue to face long, unsafe journeys to access education, healthcare and work. Without reliable transport, opportunities remain out of reach.
Through the Buffalo Ride, every $250 raised funds a purpose-built Buffalo Bicycle providing a simple, immediate solution that can transform access, safety and livelihoods.
“This is one of the most tangible ways our industry can create real impact,” The Intrepid Foundation general manager Biheng Zhang said. “A Buffalo Bicycle doesn’t just change how someone travels, it changes what’s possible for her future. With just weeks to go, we’re calling on the industry to come together, get involved and help us reach more communities, faster. Whether you’re riding 5km or 500km, every pedal stroke helps break down barriers. When you ride, she rides.”
Ride your way this May
On Sunday 3 May, riders around the world will take part in the Buffalo Ride, but participation is designed to be flexible. Join a local ride or host your own ride anywhere, anytime throughout May. Ride solo or as a team, choose your distance, and fundraise in a way that works for you.
Early momentum is building:
- $17,461 raised to date
- 97 participants registered
With just weeks to go, organisers are urging more industry players to sign up and help accelerate progress towards the $170,000 goal.
Industry activation kicks off in Melbourne
In the lead-up to the main event, Intrepid Travel is hosting a Melbourne stationary bike challenge on Thursday 30 April at the travel company’s Collins Street HQ, bringing together corporate teams for a day of fundraising and friendly competition. Eight Intrepid teams go head-to-head with building tenants, collectively aiming to ride 400km across eight hours and raise $10,000. The activation builds momentum for the global ride and offers an accessible way for industry partners to get involved.
