This NAIDOC Week, Intrepid Travel is taking action to support First Nations communities by committing to raise $100,000 for Indigenous ranger programs through The Intrepid Foundation’s local charity partner, Country Needs People.

To launch the campaign, Flight Centre Travel Group has pledged $25,000, which has been dollar matched by Intrepid Travel, bringing the campaign’s starting total to $50,000.

Intrepid Travel Managing Director, ANZ, Brett Mitchell said: “The campaign offers a meaningful way for the industry to engage with NAIDOC Week in a way that moves beyond symbolism into action.”

“Tourism doesn’t exist without Country and this is one way we can give back. We’re proud to partner with Flight Centre again and continue backing Country Needs People and the rangers whose work protects biodiversity, supports cultural knowledge, and strengthens communities,” Mitchell said.

Country Needs People is a leading Australian charity working with over 50 Indigenous partners to support Indigenous Protected Areas and grow the network of Indigenous Rangers. These rangers play a vital role in caring for Country, managing fire, protecting endangered species, and passing on cultural knowledge to future generations.

Country Needs People CEO Patrick O’Leary said: “This partnership is really welcome. Every dollar raised goes directly to helping Indigenous Rangers manage fire, protect endangered species, support young people on Country, pass on cultural knowledge and strengthen their local land and sea management groups. It’s particularly encouraging to see leaders in the travel industry walking alongside us in this work, recognising the value of Indigenous Rangers work on Country and we’re really grateful for the support.”

The campaign runs through July and is open to public, industry and corporate donations. 100 per cent of funds raised will go directly to Country Needs People’s programs.
