Is this floating “house-boat-trike” an adventure traveller’s dream?

We thought the world couldn’t get any stranger, until we found the Zeltini Z-Triton.

A thing of the past are choices between cruising or camping; overlanding or cycling; hotels or bed and breakfasts, because with the Z-Triton, you might just be able to have it all in one.

Described as a “house-boat-trike” or “tiny amphibious home/camper” that comes complete with a fold-up kitchen, the new concept from Latvian start-up Zeltini could be the future of multi-medium travel.

The kooky concept seems like it came straight out of a Wes Anderson film, but according to the prototype’s creators, the Z-Triton is very serious, and very real, and could arrive by 2021.

“Perfect for either expeditions around the world or for recreation – a weekend getaway deep in the nature [sic]. Equipped with electric assistance, it’s an easy and fun ride both on land and water,” the start-up’s website states.

According to Zeltini, the Z-Triton is electrically powered, environmentally sustainable and is equipped for two.

On land, it can be powered by cycling, with the option of electric help, and can reach speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour. While on the water, it cruises at speeds of around 30 kilometres per hour.

The interior of the so-called Z-Triton is also adjustable to comfortably sleep two people, alongside their use of sleeping bags.

In the time of the coronavirus, when experts are telling us that the world, and travel and tourism, will look very different to before, that could mean embracing new ways of living.

Is the Z-Triton the answer to an uncertain future of travel in a hygiene obsessed world? We don’t know, but it sure as hell would be a sight to see.
