The Italian National Tourist Board has launched its very own radio station to help relaunch and promote tourism in the country.
Each day, Italian tourism news in various languages from 23 countries around the world will be broadcast with music, insights and well-known personalities at a national and international level on Visit Italy Web Radio.
The station will offer a selection of different musical genres to savour and discover Italy through the interpretations of foreign artists linked to the country such as opera, jazz and swing, the magnificent 30s/40s/50s, and dance music.
There will be ad hoc segments on national and international tourism trends, art, culture, food and wine, activities, sustainability and folklore designed to restore the perception of Italy as a tourist destination on a global scale.
The radio station can be heard through a player on Italy’s official tourism website and on the ENIT website, as well as via the App Store, Google Play, Huawei AppGallery, Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
This year, the station will also be the official digital radio partner for the Giro D’Italia and GiroE 2021 cycling events, which will take place from 8 to 30 May 2021.
Giorgio Palmucci, president of the Italian National Tourist Board, said: “Due to its itinerant nature, cycling is the sport which, more than any other, manages to tell the beauties of the regions, reaching the homes and hearts of people, and especially pleases foreigners.
“Sixty-one per cent of cyclists who travel through Italy come from abroad.”
Palmucci said radio is capable of “reaching anywhere and making a difference”.
“It allows you to close your eyes and dream of being in any place and experiencing any emotion, such as tourism,” he said.
The launch of Visit Italy Web Radio comes as the country prepares to welcome back international tourists, with Prime Minister Mario Draghi announcing earlier this week the introduction of Italy’s own ‘green pass’ for travel by the middle of May.
