and it’s only Thursday.

On Tuesday Melbourne was named the World’s Most Liveable City for the fifth consecutive year by the UK-based Economist Intelligence Unit.

The award ranks cities against a range of categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

The rankings give Australia four cities in the top 10 worldwide, followed by Canada with three in the top 10.

Earlier in the week, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) was recognised in the 2015 BRW Most Innovative Companies List, becoming Australia’s first convention and exhibition centre to be named in the prestigious list.

MCEC chief executive Peter King said the recognition was a huge milestone for both the company and Australia.

“We wanted to benchmark ourselves outside the business events industry, so to be ranked 33 out of more than 500 of Australia’s most innovative companies is an outstanding result,” he said.

“The events industry is at the forefront of innovation and this award validates our position as leaders within the wider business community.”

And Melbourne Airport’s new Terminal 4 saw its first flight, with Tigerair taking off for Sydney early on Tuesday morning.

Jetstar and Regional Express (Rex) will also move into the new terminal, which has been designed to handle up to 10 million passengers a year and is the first terminal in the Asia Pacific region to open as a completely self-service check-in operation.

“It’s been a great week for Melbourne,” Melbourne Convention Bureau’s chief executive officer Karen Bolinger said.

“To win the World’s Most Liveable City title for a fifth year is a marketer’s dream and will resonate particularly well for Melbourne in our key international markets.”

“I congratulate MCEC and Melbourne Airport on their achievements this week, which are a further indication that Melbourne just keeps on innovating.”
