Aussie fans of Japan’s drift culture now have the chance to do it with Uber Drift, a limited-edition tour product that invites tourists to experience the thrill of professional drifting from the passenger seat.

The launch marks the Asia-Pacific debut of Uber’s global “Go Anywhere” series, a collection of premium travel products designed to unlock authentic local tour experiences around the world, easily bookable on the Uber app.

Japan is riding high as one of the most popular travel destinations for Aussies, with over one million tourists flocking to the Land of the Rising Sun from the Land Down Under in 2025 – up 15 per cent year-on-year.

As the travel trend shows no signs of slowing down, it makes perfect sense to give tourists who feel the need for speed an exclusive experience in Tokyo through the magic of Uber. Uber Drift offers rare, bookable access to Japan’s globally celebrated (yet traditionally elusive) automotive subculture.

Uber Drift follows the success of international offerings including Uber Safari (South Africa), Uber Balloon (Türkiye) and Uber Bubbles (France).

What is drift?

Drifting is the adrenaline-pumping art of sliding a car sideways through corners at high speeds. Originally born in Japan in the 1970s, it’s now a global phenomenon and a massive part of local car culture. Yet, finding an authentic, safe way to experience it as a visitor has always been tough. Uber Drift changes that, breaking down the barriers to give travelers easy, VIP access to a thrilling, uniquely Japanese automotive adventure.

A seamless journey from Tokyo to circuit

Uber Drift transforms a highly specialised and historically difficult-to-access motorsport into a premium, turnkey experience available directly through the Uber app. The curated, half-day itinerary seamlessly blends luxury transit with authentic motorsport immersion.

Guests are picked up from their Tokyo accommodation in an Uber Black van for a premium, round-trip transfer to the iconic Mobara Twin Circuit. Upon arrival, participants enjoy about 90 minutes of track time featuring iconic Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) cars. To guarantee a safe and expertly controlled environment, Uber has partnered with Formula Drift licensed professional drivers. Guests will ride passenger-side during adrenaline-fueled tandem drifting sessions in specially prepared racing cars: a Nissan Silvia S15 and a Nissan 180SX.

Highlights

  • Door-to-Door Transit: The itinerary begins with a premium Uber Black pickup from a Tokyo hotel in the morning, with the return drop-off scheduled in the afternoon.
  • Private Group Reservations: Uber Drift is booked as a private group experience, accommodating 1 to 4 participants per reservation.
  • Track Allocation: Each reservation includes a number of laps that can be flexibly divided among the group members or utilised entirely by a solo traveler.
Mandatory Safety Attire: In compliance with track safety regulations, all guests must wear long sleeves, full-length pants, and closed-toe shoes (sneakers), and will be provided with a protective helmet.

Details and availability

Reservations for Uber Drift officially open on Wednesday 27 May 2026. The limited-run experience, which costs just JPY30,000 (around AU$265) per group of 1 to 4 passengers, will operate for approximately one month, with bookable dates ranging from 3 June through 1 July 2026. Due to the specialised nature of the event, capacity is strictly limited to 4 groups per day. By integrating this cultural staple into our platform, Uber Drift offers travelers a rare opportunity to engage with a foundational element of Japanese car culture.

How to book

  • Open the Uber app
  • Select the ‘Uber Drift’ icon in the home screen
  • Choose an available date and time
  • Select number of participants from 1 to 4
  • Enter your pickup and drop-off locations
  • Review the details and click ‘Reserve Uber Drift’
  • Once confirmed, you’ll receive an email with your booking details
