A hotel on Japan’s northernmost island, Hokkaido, has begun accepting reservations for its “ice hotel” suite where the temperature is between -5C and -8C.
The suite, which is available until February 28, accommodates two people under a 10-metre dome and offers a twin bed with sleeping bags that can withstand up to -30C.
An overnight stay costs $US167 ($A180.69) per person.
To combat the low temperatures, guests are provided with special thermal pyjamas and offered mulled wine or hot apple juice.
The hotel’s website also carries a warning to be careful with one’s alcohol intake due to the possibility of freezing to death.
