Jetstar will fly from Brisbane to Bangkok this afternoon for the first time, becoming the only carrier to offer direct flights from Queensland to Thailand’s capital.
Operating three times a week using Jetstar’s 787 Dreamliners, the new service is expected to carry more than 100,000 people a year and mark the first time in almost five years since any airline offered direct flights between Brisbane and Bangkok.
With a flight time of just over eight hours, Jetstar’s non-stop service will significantly reduce the current journey time via indirect routes, making it quicker and easier for Queenslanders to get there.
Inbound passengers will also boost Queensland’s visitor economy, with the new flights part of a massive expansion of Jetstar’s services in the Sunshine State.
Jetstar has so far launched 13 new domestic and international routes from Queensland since the pandemic including Brisbane to Osaka, Tokyo and Seoul.
Brisbane to Bangkok is the 14th new route for Jetstar this year, with four of those routes launching in just the last fortnight.

Jetstar’s head of network, fleet strategy and planning, Ted Knight, said the new flights continue Jetstar’s commitment to making travel more affordable for Queenslanders.
“This is our 20th Brisbane route following a period of massive expansion of low fares flying on Jetstar out of Brisbane and across the Sunshine State,” he said.
“The last time Queenslanders had a direct flight to Bangkok was before the pandemic, and our sold-out inaugural flight shows Jetstar’s low fares to Thailand’s capital will be popular.”
Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaf said the flights are one of the final pieces of the post-pandemic puzzle to fall into place.
“Bangkok has been one of the most frequently requested services over the past three years, so it is no surprise that this flight is sold out, like other recent launches by Jetstar from Brisbane,” he said.
“Queenslanders have embraced the great value Jetstar offers, propelling it from Brisbane Airport’s 7th biggest international carrier to number 2, and we look forward to more destinations in the future.”
First Jetstar Auckland to Sunshine Coast flight touches down
The first-ever year round direct service connecting Auckland to the Sunshine Coast touched down this morning marking the start of the three times weekly Jetstar trans-Tasman service.
Passengers on the inaugural flight were greeted by the Sunshine Coast’s iconic surf lifesaver community, enthusiastic locals, and a warm welcome that showcased the spirit of the region.
With three flights per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, the new route will create more than 58,000 new low fare seats each year between the two destinations. Jetstar’s Executive Manager, Customer, Jenn Armor said the airline is excited to be growing its network from the Sunshine Coast.
“The Sunshine Coast is one of Jetstar’s most popular destinations and it’s great to be launching these new routes and bringing more people to this beautiful part of the world,” Armor said.
“The new service will not only benefit tourists, but it will also help connect the Sunshine Coast’s large population of Kiwi ex-pats with their home country.
